Pakistan Governments Integrity on Balochistan

The Government of Pakistan since the start of the military operation in the province has on every platform denied the establishment of Cantonments in Balochistan and involvement of army in Military operation in Balochistan. In December 2005 Director General ISPR Maj Gen Shaukat Sultan while speaking to journalist at Sukkur airport said “no military operation is going on in Balochistan and army is not building cantonments in the Province”. Four years later on 23 April 2009 in a statement issued by Frontier Corps Balochistan denied any military operation in Balochistan, adding, however, that FC is deployed to protect national assets in the province. Recently on 15 Nov 2009 Prime Minister Gillani speaking to journalists in his home town said that “no military operation is being carried out in Balochistan”. The list goes on and on with prominent personalities denying involvement of army and military operation in the Province.

Lately with the announcement of Aghaaz-e-Haqooq Balochistan package the Interior Ministry issued a vague order over the withdrawal of the army from the Province and handing over the cantonments to FC. It may also be mentioned that Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has also announced that no new cantonment will be set up in Balochistan. Strangely enough the previous and present regimes always affirmed that there was no army deployed in Balochistan and no military operation against the Baloch was done at any levels. Even the Prime Minister Gilani on the 15 of Nov 2009 iterated that there was no army operation in Balochistan and suddenly the Government which for many years has been denying the facts about the operation has issued an order for the withdrawal of the army from the Province clearly proving that they had been lying about the operation all this time.

This shows the credibility of the Government and its leaders and what should the Baloch nation expect from them in the future. Only time will tell whether there are any sincere motive behind Governments action or once again the Baloch nation has been lied too.
